this very much reminds me of american women in the 1960s, where women were subjugated in almost every aspect of their lives and were subject to the male gaze. women were still expected to be docile and pander to the whims and fancies of their husbands, and beneath the veneer of their calculated beauty and prim manners, lied a woman’s heart that merely longs to be loved, touched and treasured by her husband.
